Released April 9, 2026, Pinky Up debuted at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of April 25 — KATSEYE's highest-charting single at that point. It hit #2 on Hot Dance/Pop Songs and #14 in the UK, with simultaneous entries on Norway's VG-lista (#5) and Singapore (#8). The day after release KATSEYE performed it live at Coachella, giving the single an immediate festival-scale platform weeks before its chart climb peaked. By May, fan tutorials on YouTube were clearing 4 million views, and the built-in participation move — the raised-pinky gesture anyone can replicate with one finger — drove challenge formats across TikTok and Shorts.
Cultural Note
Pinky Up is built on a sample from Da Hool's 1997 Eurotechno classic 'Meet Her at the Love Parade,' whose four-on-the-floor pulse gives the track its undeniable floor energy beneath the hyperpop production. KATSEYE was formed through 'The Debut: Dream Academy,' a 2023 competition that selected six members — Daniela (Atlanta), Lara (LA), Manon (Switzerland), Megan (Honolulu), Sophia (Manila), and Yoonchae (Seoul) — from 120,000 global submissions, making them the first group built from scratch using K-pop development methods but assembled internationally. Pinky Up arrived as a quintet recording after Manon Bannerman announced a hiatus, yet it debuted as the group's biggest chart entry — landing weeks after Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards.
The core move is a raised pinky — photos where your hand is clearly visible produce the most legible 'pinky up' gesture in the output
The choreography alternates body tilts left and right on each pinky raise; front-facing photos capture the tilt contrast better than profile shots
The dance break involves wide-leg stances and jump sequences — full-body or at least torso-to-head photos give the AI enough frame to render the lower-body energy
Photos with attitude or a direct gaze match the song's confident energy; the AI mirrors the expression energy of the source photo
